I. The popularity of wind energy industry exhibitions is on the rise, and the domesticization of core components has become a key focus.

Domestic major wind energy industry exhibitions continue to attract concentrated industry presentations, gathering enterprises from the entire value chain of wind power, including wind turbine manufacturing, core components, operation and maintenance services, and intelligent control. They showcase the technological iteration achievements and industrial application plans of current wind power equipment. With the upgrading and expansion of onshore wind power and the large-scale expansion of offshore wind power, the development trend of large-sized, intelligent, and highly reliable wind turbine units has become increasingly evident. The industry has put forward more stringent requirements for the technical standards, environmental adaptability, and long-term operational stability of the core safety components of wind turbines.

Under the background of rapid technological iteration of wind turbine technology, the main shaft braking and yaw braking systems, as the core guarantees for the safe operation of wind turbines, directly determine the stability of unit start and stop, positioning accuracy, and protection capabilities in extreme conditions. In the past, the high-end wind power braking components in China relied on overseas supply, which had problems such as long supply cycles, slow operation response, and weak adaptability and customization. With the acceleration of the domestic wind power industry's process of self-control and controllability, the substitution of core components by domestic production has become the mainstream development direction of the industry. Wind power-specific braking devices with high corrosion resistance, high stability, low operation costs, and intelligence have become the key breakthrough point for the upgrading of the industry chain.

At this large-scale wind energy exhibition, many new high-performance wind turbine braking devices suitable for both onshore and offshore wind power conditions were officially unveiled. The new products have made special technical optimizations for large-capacity wind turbines, complex sea area conditions, and outdoor extreme environments, filling the shortcomings of traditional braking products in the adaptation to large-scale units, anti-corrosion and anti-aging, intelligent monitoring, and long-term durability. With the technical upgrades that meet the industry's urgent needs and the advantages of implementation, they have attracted the attention and inquiries from many turbine manufacturers, wind power operation and maintenance enterprises, and engineering integrators, providing new options for the implementation of domestic production of core components in wind power.

II. The existing shortcomings of traditional wind turbine braking devices make it difficult to adapt to the new cycle of wind power operations

At present, the existing wind turbines in operation in China have a large scale. The conventional braking devices that were originally equipped are mostly suitable for small-capacity units and conventional onshore conditions. Facing the industry changes such as the widespread use of large-capacity units, the complex environment of offshore wind power, and the long service life of wind turbines, multiple adaptation shortcomings gradually emerged, making it difficult to meet the high-quality development requirements of the new wind power industry.

AKB permanent magnet brake

The conventional wind turbine brake has insufficient torque output stability, prone to torque fluctuations. During the operation of the wind turbine, wind gusts, rotor inertia loads, and cabin oscillations generate dynamic alternating loads. The traditional braking structure has weak linear torque regulation performance, with a large initial braking and steady-state braking torque deviation, which can easily cause problems such as yaw misalignment and main shaft locking loosening. Long-term operation will exacerbate component wear and affect the stability of the turbine's power generation. Especially on large-megawatt and large-capacity turbines, the rotor sweep area is larger and the inertia load is stronger. Ordinary braking products are difficult to smoothly absorb impact loads, and the equipment operation risks accumulate continuously.

The environmental adaptability is weak, and the equipment ages rapidly under complex conditions. Onshore mountainous and plateau wind power has extreme temperature differences, sandstorm invasion, strong wind vibrations, etc. Offshore wind power is constantly facing complex environments with high salt fog, high humidity, strong ultraviolet rays, and alternating seasonal temperature changes. The traditional brake protection structure is simple, the anti-corrosion process is ordinary, and the sealing protection level is limited. Water vapor, salt fog, and sand can easily invade the equipment interior, causing coil corrosion, oil blockage, and metal component rusting and jamming, shortening the equipment maintenance cycle and increasing the operation pressure of the wind farm.

The durability performance does not match the service life of the wind turbine, and the comprehensive operation and maintenance costs are high. The industry's mainstream wind turbine design service life is 20 to 25 years. However, traditional brake components have limited wear resistance and fatigue resistance, and they lose efficiency under high-frequency start-stop and repeated braking conditions. They require regular shutdown for maintenance and component replacement. The operation window period of wind power maintenance is limited, the operation difficulty is high, and the comprehensive cost is high. Frequent maintenance not only increases the operation expenditure of the wind farm but also occupies the turbine's power generation time, affecting the overall revenue of the wind farm.

The intelligent monitoring function is lacking, and it is difficult to adapt to the smart wind farm control system. Most traditional wind turbine brakes only have basic mechanical braking functions and do not carry sensor monitoring and data transmission modules. They cannot capture core data such as braking temperature, friction plate wear, system pressure, and torque fluctuations in real time. The maintenance team can only rely on regular inspections to troubleshoot faults and cannot achieve predictive maintenance. This can easily lead to sudden shutdown faults, which does not conform to the current trend of intelligent, digital, and refined operation and maintenance of wind power. The overall protection level of the machine reaches the IP65 standard, which can adapt to extreme working conditions ranging from -40 degrees Celsius to 80 degrees Celsius. It also covers all scenarios of wind power, including low-temperature in high-altitude areas, high-temperature in deserts, salt-spray in the sea, and sand-dust in mountainous areas. The equipment exterior adopts a special heavy-duty anti-corrosion spraying process to enhance its resistance to ultraviolet rays, salt spray, and aging. It can operate outdoors for a long time without rusting, peeling, or aging failure, significantly improving the stability of the equipment under complex conditions.

(3) New wear-resistant friction materials extend the durability cycle of the equipment

Abandoning traditional general-purpose friction materials, the new product adopts self-developed composite wear-resistant and high-temperature friction materials. After multiple rounds of high-temperature braking, high-frequency start-stop, and salt-spray aging tests, the material's density, flexibility, and high-temperature performance have been comprehensively upgraded. This material has a small thermal attenuation amplitude under continuous high-temperature braking conditions, maintains a stable friction coefficient, and does not experience performance decline due to frequent braking. At the same time, the wear rate is uniform and controllable, with stronger fatigue and impact resistance, which can adapt to the continuous and high-frequency start-stop braking mode of wind turbines, effectively extending the replacement cycle of vulnerable parts and reducing the frequency of wind farm shutdown maintenance, in line with the design standards for long-term operation of wind turbines.

(4) Equipped with an intelligent monitoring module, suitable for smart wind farm operation and maintenance

This new product is standardly equipped with an integrated intelligent sensor monitoring unit. It can collect core operating data such as braking torque, working temperature, wear thickness of friction plates, system pressure, and operation frequency in real time. Through standardized interfaces, it connects with the wind turbine PLC system and the remote operation platform of the wind farm. Maintenance personnel can rely on the background data to monitor the operating status of the braking system in real time, accurately predict the wear cycle of components, and formulate planned maintenance plans, replacing the traditional passive fault repair mode. The system has an abnormal warning function, which alerts in advance for issues such as temperature超标, pressure abnormality, and torque deviation, helping the maintenance team quickly locate the fault location and improving the digital operation efficiency of the wind farm, in line with the development trend of smart wind power.

(5) Modular integration design reduces assembly and maintenance difficulty

The new product adopts a lightweight modular integration structure, simplifying redundant structures, optimizing the overall size and weight of the machine, and having a compact layout. It is suitable for the narrow installation space of the wind turbine nacelle. Standardized universal installation interfaces are compatible with mainstream large-megawatt wind turbine models, eliminating the need for complex customization and modification, and having stronger adaptability. The modular design for separate components makes maintenance operations more convenient. It is possible to replace vulnerable parts independently without disassembling the entire machine, significantly reducing the duration of offshore and high-altitude maintenance operations, adapting to the limited operation window period of wind power, and effectively reducing labor maintenance costs and equipment downtime losses.

Four. Multiple rounds of rigorous condition verification ensure the reliability of the new product's launch

To ensure that the new product can adapt to various complex wind power conditions, the high-performance wind turbine brake mechanism showcased at the exhibition has completed multiple rounds of laboratory extreme tests, on-site installation trial runs, and standardized mass production quality inspections before being launched to the market. It comprehensively verifies the product's performance stability and condition adaptability in various scenarios. During the laboratory testing phase, the research and development team set up high-temperature alternating test benches, salt spray corrosion test benches, and heavy-load impact durability test benches to simulate all scenarios of wind power extreme conditions and conduct millions of times of continuous start-stop braking durability tests. They continuously monitored parameters such as torque stability, temperature changes, component wear, and sealing performance to continuously optimize the structure and material parameters based on minor performance fluctuations, ensuring stable output of braking performance under extreme conditions.

During the on-site trial operation phase, the new product is equipped with multiple large-megawatt wind turbines and is tested in multiple wind power projects on land, mountains, near-sea, and far-sea, covering seasonal temperature variations, typhoon season winds and waves, and strong sandstorms. Through long-term real-site operation to collect equipment operation data and first-line operation feedback, continuously optimize the equipment sealing structure, torque adjustment logic and installation compatibility details, and enhance the adaptability of the product in real-world scenarios.

During the mass production quality inspection stage, a full-process traceability control system was established. Each downline product must complete multiple standard processes such as torque calibration, sealingity testing, insulation performance testing, anti-corrosion performance verification, and wear parameter detection, strictly controlling the quality differences of batch products, ensuring the uniform performance and reliable quality of the factory-issued equipment, and meeting the requirements for batch matching and upgrading of wind farms.

V. The value of new exhibition products for wind power industry quality improvement and upgrading

The debut of the new high-performance wind turbine brake mechanism at this wind energy exhibition provides a high-quality solution for the domestic substitution of core components of wind power, effectively filling the gap in the compatibility of domestic high-end wind brake products, and having multiple positive promoting effects on the high-quality and sustainable development of the wind power industry.

At the equipment operation level, the stable torque output, strong weather resistance, and long-term durability of the new product can effectively reduce the failure rate of the wind turbine braking system, reduce the number of equipment shutdowns and maintenance, continuously ensure the efficient and stable power generation of the wind turbine, increase the overall utilization hours and power generation income of the wind farm, and meet the requirements of large-scale and long-term operation of offshore and onshore wind power.

At the industrial support level, the core materials, structural design, and intelligent control technology of the product are all independently developed, and core components are independently processed and produced. This further improves the domestic industrial chain of core components of wind power, alleviates the industry situation of long-term reliance on external procurement of high-end wind brake equipment, and helps the entire wind power industry to develop independently and controllably.

At the operation cost level, the low loss, easy maintenance, and long lifespan characteristics of the product significantly reduce the replacement cost of wind farm accessories, the cost of high-altitude operation personnel, and the loss of power generation due to equipment shutdown, effectively solving the problem of high operation costs in the wind power industry, and helping wind power projects improve quality and efficiency and achieve grid parity development.

Relying on the industry exchanges and technology connections of the exhibition platform, this high-performance brake mechanism will accelerate its implementation in various wind power projects, and be adapted to new machine pre-installation and upgrade scenarios of existing wind turbines. The R&D team will also continue to delve into the wind power braking subfield, in combination with the trend of large-scale wind turbines and the upgrade of offshore and deep-sea wind power conditions, continuously optimize the intelligent monitoring, anti-corrosion durability, and lightweight compatibility performance of the product, iterate and enrich the product specification system, and continuously provide solid core component support for the green, intelligent, and large-scale development of the domestic wind power industry.
